不同国家的当事人，不论是个人间的、单位间的、企业间的或政府间的，因为商品买卖、服务供应、资金调拨、国际借贷而需要通过银行办理的两国间外汇收付业务，以结清买卖双方间的债权债务关系，称之为国际贸易结算。
L/C（信用证）:
信用证（letter of credit，简称L/C）是银行根据开证申请人的请求和指示，向受益人开具的有一定金额、并在一定期限内凭规定的单据承诺付款的书面文件；或者是银行在规定金额、日期和单据的条件下，愿代开证申请人承购受益人汇票的保证书。
在国际贸易活动，买卖双方可能互不信任，买方担心预付款后，卖方不按合同要求发货；卖方也担心在发货或提交货运单据后买方不付款。因此需要两家银行做为买卖双方的保证人，代为收款交单，以银行信用代替商业信用。银行在这一活动中所使用的工具就是信用证。Ocean Freight Export
